A Gift for Your Parents

Two guests holding an Egypt Encompassed flag at the Pyramids of Giza entrance

They have been talking about the pyramids since you were a child

And they have never gone, because there was a mortgage, and then there was you, and then it was never quite the right year.

Now you are in a position to send them. What stops most people at this point is not the money but the worry. Egypt feels far away and complicated, your parents are not as young as they were, and the thought of them finding their way through a Cairo airport at midnight is not a comfortable one.

This page is here to answer that worry.

What they will never have to do alone

  • Arriving. Met inside the terminal, before passport control, by someone holding a sign with their name. Visa formalities handled. They are never left to find a driver outside in the crowd.
  • Getting around. A private car and driver throughout. No taxis, no haggling, no apps, no queues.
  • Every day. Their own Egyptologist, the same one from the first morning to the last if you’d like. By the second day, their guide will know their names and their pace.
  • At any hour. A phone number answered by a person, day or night, in English. Not a call centre.
  • Between cities. Internal flights and transfers arranged in advance, with someone to meet them at every arrival. They never have to work out a connection on their own.
  • Leaving. Driven to the airport and helped through check-in and departure formalities.

Designed for how they actually travel

The standard Egypt itinerary is built for people in their thirties. It is too much for many people in their seventies, and the usual result is a parent who comes home saying it was wonderful while privately having found it exhausting.

We plan these journeys differently. Fewer sites in a day, with proper time at each. Cars as close to the entrances as the authorities allow. Afternoons that are genuinely free. Hotels chosen for lifts, quiet rooms and good beds rather than grand lobbies. And where the road journeys are long, a dahabiya instead, so the sites come to the boat rather than the other way round.

We will ask you direct questions. How far can they comfortably walk? Are stairs a problem? Does either of them tire in the heat? Is there anything medical we should quietly plan around? Nothing goes into the itinerary that they would struggle with.

They can call you from anywhere on the journey

On arrival in each country — Egypt, and Jordan if it is part of the trip — they are given a local SIM or eSIM, whichever their phone takes, with a data plan already active. No roaming charges, no hunting for Wi-Fi in a hotel lobby. They can message you, send photographs and video-call you from the deck of a boat on the Nile.

On one day of the journey, a professional photographer joins them for a private session, so you get the pictures of the two of them together that they would never think to take themselves.

If you are going with them

Some families travel together — you, your parents and sometimes the grandchildren. That works well, but it needs designing: three generations want genuinely different days. The answer is a shared itinerary with private variations, not a compromise that suits nobody.

Tell us who is coming and how old everyone is, and we will plan accordingly.

What it costs

A twelve-day private journey for two, guided throughout, with internal flights and time on the Nile, starts from USD 5,600 per person, sharing a double room. Families travelling together are quoted individually.

If that is more than you had in mind, say so. A shorter journey done properly is a far better gift than a longer one done thinly, and we will tell you honestly what your budget buys.

Traveling through Egypt with my mother was such a special experience.
